How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
At River Stone Dental Center, we strongly recommend patients attend at least two checkups and cleanings per year, ideally every six months. Patients with periodontitis may require additional deep cleanings and exams. While we know you do a great job at brushing, flossing, and caring for your teeth at home, dental problems can easily go unnoticed by untrained eyes. By attending a dental exam and cleaning appointment at least twice a year, it’s easier to treat, manage, and prevent dental problems to encourage a healthy smile.
Are teeth cleanings painful?
Teeth cleanings are generally not painful, though you may feel some mild discomfort or sensitivity, especially if you have gum inflammation or a lot of tartar buildup. Our dental team takes great care to ensure your comfort during the cleaning process. We use gentle techniques and can adjust our approach based on your needs. If you’re especially sensitive or nervous, let us know—we can take extra steps to help make your visit as comfortable as possible.
Will teeth cleanings whiten my teeth?
Teeth cleanings can help your smile appear brighter by removing surface stains caused by foods, drinks, or tobacco. While cleanings don’t whiten teeth the way professional whitening treatments do, they do polish your enamel and remove plaque and tartar that can dull your smile. If you’re interested in going a few shades whiter, we’d be happy to talk with you about our cosmetic whitening treatments after your cleaning. A clean, healthy smile is the perfect starting point for whitening!
How much is a dental exam and cleaning?
Biannual dental exams and cleanings are essential for oral and overall health, making them a valuable investment. Most dental insurance plans cover preventive visits, as removing tartar and plaque from teeth can help prevent costly treatments in the future. If you do not have dental insurance, our office accepts several payment options and offers a dental savings plan to help make dental exams and cleanings easily accessible and affordable for our patients.
